Vote April O'Leary
City of Conway Council
Special Election
June 13th, 2023
Dear Voters of Conway,
I am excited to introduce myself and my family as a candidate for City Council. My husband, Patrick O’Leary, is a professional firefighter for the city of Conway. We have two children, Rylee and Jack, who attend Conway High School and Conway Middle School, respectively. Our family is completed by our two furry feline members, Tubby and Tuna. As a long-time resident of this community, I am passionate about making it a better place for all.
My campaign slogan, "Leading with Love and Loyalty," reflects my belief that these values are crucial for effective leadership. I am committed to putting the needs of our community first and working together with all residents to build a brighter future for Conway. As the President of Horry County Rising, I have worked on preventing catastrophic flooding for Horry County's families and businesses, and I am dedicated to continuing this important work.
Smart and sustainable development is one of my top priorities. I believe that we can grow our economy while protecting and preserving our natural resources. For example, I helped to create the strongest flood protection laws in the country through my work on Horry County's flood subcommittee and leading our non-profit Horry County Rising. I am also working to enact stronger protections for our natural flood storage, and wetland forests.
As the wife of a firefighter for over 20 years, I have always appreciated first responders and public safety. I am committed to supporting our police, fire, and first responders. Through my work with Horry County Rising, we ensure that our community is prepared for natural disasters like flooding.
Nature-based tourism is an untapped resource in our community. I believe that we can promote eco-tourism and outdoor recreation while preserving our natural beauty and creating economic growth. For example, I am working with the City of Conway to establish the Mayor Monarch Project, which includes a painted public mural of the Monarch butterfly that is interactive. I am also partnering with the South Carolina Wildlife Federation to preserve this endangered species and attract visitors and tourists to our community.
Finally, I am passionate about making Conway a great community for our college students and youth of today. Our young people are the future of this city, and we need to invest in their education, health, and well-being. For example, I helped support the City of Conway's long-term vision and plan that hopes to create more facilities and opportunities for our college students and faculty.
I hope that you will consider supporting me in the upcoming election.
Together, we can lead with love and loyalty to build a stronger and more vibrant community for all.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
April O’Leary
