Dear Conway Voters,
As we prepare for the upcoming election, I want to take a moment to talk about the importance of our beautiful parks, particularly the Waccamaw Riverwalk. These parks not only provide a space for us to enjoy nature and stay active, but they also play a critical role in our community's sustainability and resilience.
Nature-based tourism is a significant contributor to Horry County's economy, generating over 45,000 jobs and $7.3 billion in annual income. Our parks, including the Waccamaw Riverwalk, are a crucial part of this industry, attracting visitors from all over the country and beyond.
But our parks are more than just a tourist attraction. They also serve as natural flood storage, designed to flood during storms and protect our community from the devastating effects of flooding. As we face an increasing threat of flooding, it's essential that we use our parks as a natural way to reduce flooding and make Conway more sustainable.
Conway has already made significant progress in becoming more flood-resilient, but there is still more work to be done. As a candidate for office, I am eager to continue advocating for nature-based flood control projects, like the one in the Sherwood community that I personally helped support. If elected, I will be a champion for flooded families and work to create creative nature-based projects that retain and convey water more efficiently and effectively.
Our parks, including the Waccamaw Riverwalk, are a critical part of our community's resilience and sustainability. I urge you to support these valuable resources and vote for a candidate who will fight to protect them and the families they serve.
Leading with Love & Loyalty,
April O’Leary
