Top 5-Conway's Stormwater

Dear Conway Voters,

As a member of Horry County's Stormwater Board, and President of Horry County Rising, I understand the importance of investing in stormwater infrastructure to ensure that our water quality is maintained and reduce flooding. Now, as a candidate for the Conway City Council, I am excited to bring my expertise and passion for stormwater to our city.

Stormwater infrastructure is a critical component of Conway’s infrastructure. It is responsible for improving water quality, conveyance, and retention, protecting our homes and businesses from flooding, and ensuring that our city is safe and secure for all its residents. As a member of Horry County's Stormwater Board, I have been proud to work collaboratively across municipalities to ensure that we have proper stormwater infrastructure to protect our communities.

Here are my TOP 5 goals for improving Conway's stormwater*

1. Implement Green Infrastructure: Green infrastructure involves using natural systems like rain gardens, green roofs, and permeable pavement to manage stormwater. These practices can help reduce runoff and improve water quality.

2. Encourage Low-Impact Development: Low-impact development is a land-use planning and engineering design approach that emphasizes conservation and use of existing natural systems to manage stormwater runoff. This approach can reduce the need for costly stormwater infrastructure and improve water quality.

3. Manage Construction Site Runoff: Construction sites can generate a significant amount of stormwater runoff. Proper management of construction site runoff through practices such as sediment and erosion control can help prevent soil erosion and protect water quality.

4. Promote Public Education and Outreach: Educating the public about the impacts of stormwater runoff and how they can help reduce it through simple actions like properly disposing of pet waste and using fertilizers responsibly can help improve stormwater quality.

5. Ensure Proper Maintenance: Proper maintenance of stormwater infrastructure such as catch basins, treatment facilities, and retention ponds is critical to preventing clogs and ensuring they function effectively. Regular inspections and maintenance can help reduce the amount of pollutants that enter waterways. Improving and enhancing current canals like Crabtree rather than throwing good money after bad, and creating new canals I believe it critical.

I am asking for your vote on June 13th for the Conway City Council. With your support, I will continue to work tirelessly to improve Conway’s stormwater infrastructure and ensure that our city is protected from flooding.

Thank you for your consideration.

Leading with Love and Loyalty,

April O'Leary
